This afternoon at 2:00 pm EDT, the White House is hosting a special event “A Year of Historic Action to Combat the Opioid Crisis.” This celebration is a culmination of efforts by the administration and Congress to address the myriad of issues associated with opioid abuse and addiction. These legislative actions resulted in the passage of the bi-partisan and highly-popular bill H.R.6 “Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act”, 115th Congress (2017-2018).

Many influencers from government, healthcare, industry and social action groups are expected to attend this ceremony. We applaud their hard work and efforts to make this day happen. Groups such as The American Pharmacists Association (APhA), law enforcement officers such as Nebraska State Trooper Sam Mortensen, and Congressman such as Congressman Richard Hudson – NC-08 have worked together across the country to find solutions to help tackle the opioid crisis. The historic opioid crisis legislation is a testament to the commitment and dedication in the fight against opioid addiction by them and countless others.
