Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) recently announced a drug disposal program in which each injured worker will receive a DisposeRx packet or another drug disposal solution when he or she picks up an opioid prescription for the first time.
All retail pharmacies in Ohio are participating in the program, which started on November 1, 2019, and BWC will reimburse the pharmacies for the packets.
DisposeRx has a great presence and footprint in Ohio. In fact, more than 1,100 retail pharmacy stores—including Kroger, Walgreens, Walmart, Rite Aid, Meijer and Giant Eagle—dispense or make available our packets to their patients. When we launch our full program at CVS in early 2020, that number will rise to almost 1,500.
Our customers are familiar with our product, and their pharmacists will counsel Ohio’s injured workers as to the risks associated with taking opioid prescriptions and not disposing of them promptly and appropriately.
In a joint press release from BWC and the Governor’s office, BWC Administrator and CEO Stephanie McCloud said, “We need every tool available to resolve the opioid and substance epidemic…. This effort is consistent with Governor DeWine’s RecoveryOhio initiative, and BWC is proud to do its part.”
