Each October, Delaware observes National Substance Abuse Prevention Month by “going purple” with the program Delaware Goes Purple. The program empowers the community to stand up, to erase the stigma and support people who need it most. This year, Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long and NFL Hall of Famer Randy White teamed up with Delaware coaches and student athletes to launch the Coaches vs. Overdoses initiative.

Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long joined NFL Hall of Famer, and Delaware native Randy White at the DIAA women’s high school basketball semi-finals on Wednesday to announce a new statewide initiative to curb prescription drug abuse in Delaware. The “Bench Opioids” initiative is a prevention and drug disposal blitz targeting opioid abuse and overdose deaths, especially among student-athletes.

Opioid Prevention and Disposal Program to Tip Off at Delaware High School Basketball Championships

Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long announced a “Bench Opioids” initiative will begin March 8, 2023, at the Delaware High School Basketball Championships as a proactive prevention and drug disposal blitz targeting opioid use disorder and overdose deaths.
